Tuesday I reached the halfway point… 18,000 elephants. On day 4, in early February, I was waffling, wondering if I could keep this going, at some point in June it did start to feel like a job. And, not to pat myself on the back, but I did it! and now I’m going to switch gears a bit.
is a collagraph plate/matrix in the making. So far it has 40 baby elephants – I should be able to get 99 squeezed in and be printing press-ready in 3 or 4 days!
The plan is for one of a kind mixed media prints with gouache, ink and PanPastels. The people at Colorfin, (PanPastels), have developed some amazing new products that I cannot wait to use. The plate is 10″ x 12″; should it disintegrate before I get 182.5 prints pulled I will probably make some smaller grouping of elephants. Making collagraph plates is one of my favorite processes but the opportunity to print doesn’t present itself very often so I’m very excited about this phase of the project!
In the meantime the tiny herd traveled to Chautauqua, NY in July, where I met the owner of P Street Pictures from DC and she has featured this project on their website. P Street Pictures has moved to O Street if you are in the area and want to have a look!
